There are 30 Councillors who sit on Lisburn City Council. The Mayor is elected annually at the Council’s Annual meeting in June.
Each elected member is voted in to the Council by the public at Local Government elections. The last elections were held in 2005.
The 30 elected members work with Council Officers, and the Full Council, on which all 30 members sit, decide on Council business.
There is a Council Committee structure in place. These are the following Statutory Committees with the respective Chairs and Vice Chairs.
Each Council Committee meets monthly. Officer reports on Council business are discussed at the Committee meetings and decisions and actions agreed.
The Full Council meeting, which usually takes place on the last Tuesday of each month, ratifies or endorses Committee decisions.
The Mayor is the First Citizen of Lisburn City and is elected at the Council’s Annual General Meeting held in June each year.
As the Mayor is a representative of all the citizens of the City of Lisburn he/she shall remain impartial on controversial subjects particularly regarding religious or political matters.
The Mayor chairs each Full Council meeting and may sit on all Council Committees.
The Mayor also represents Lisburn City Council on a number of outside bodies.
