FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

Lisburn City Council aims to provide accountable local government and public services.  Such is its commitment it has openness and accountability as two of its core values.

In order to encourage such openness full Council and monthly meetings (with the exception of the Personnel Committee) are open to the public.

The Freedom of Information Act (2000) was devised to further enhance the idea of providing quality information to ratepayers.  Under the Act the Council is required to produce a Publication Scheme, outlining all the different types of information that it routinely makes available to the public.

As from January 2005, the public has a general right to access many kinds of information, currently held by the Council.

The Council's Publication Scheme was approved by the Information Commissioner in December 2002 and has been operational from the 28 February 2003.
