New Wheeled Bin Collection Scheme

To view further information regarding the bin collection service please click here.

Waste Management within the City remains a priority of the CouncilOn 3rd October 2005 Lisburn City Council introduced a new wheeled bin collection scheme. Homes across the City were provided with a green bin for collection of a wide range of recyclable materials and an information pack and calendar, highlighting which week the recycling bins would be emptied and which week was landfill collection week. In addition, some homes were provided with a brown bin for collection of compostable garden waste.

Initial results from the new collection system are positive with over 800 tonnes of materials collected for recycling/composting in October 2005 compared to just under 300 tonnes for the previous month.

How the Wheelie Bin System Works

On the day of collection place your bin at the kerbside/roadside with the handles facing the road. To avoid damage when being emptied the lid of the bin should be closed.  Bins should be put out the night before or early in the morning as collections begin at 7.00am.

Bags and boxes left beside the bin will not be collected.

To ensure that your bin is fully emptied please break up bulky items, such as cardboard boxes, before putting them into the correct bin. Any items which get jammed in the bin may result in the bin being only partly emptied.

If your rubbish is not collected and it is our responsibility we will try to collect it within 24 hours. Your bin has an average life of seven to ten years. You are responsible for the replacement of your bin. The Council will only replace the bin if it has been clearly damaged by the refuse collection equipment.

Want can go into my recycling bins?

The following information details what materials are suitable for the green and brown bins. If an unsuitable material is placed in a recycling bin it will be brought to the householders notice by a contaminated sticker being placed on the bin. The householder should then remove the unsuitable material and present their bin for collection on their next recycling bin collection day.
