NEW LEAFLET LAUNCHED FOR NOISE ACTION WEEK
Throughout Noise Action Week (19th –23rd May) , Lisburn City Council’s Environmental Health Service has been encouraging people to be mindful of noise and has launched its new ‘Stop the Noise’ leaflet, packed full of useful advice. Noise can be very subjective with people reacting to it in different ways. What can cause extreme annoyance to one person may not be noticed by another. Sources of noise are wide ranging and include domestic, industrial/commercial, construction sites, entertainment venues, intruder alarms and many more. In the last year, 214 complaints regarding dog barking alone have been received by the Environmental Health Service. Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said: “Unwanted noise can dramatically affect a person’s quality of life. Noise Action Week 2008 should be a reminder to for us all to consider others who may be affected by any noise that we may make. In conjunction with Noise Action Week, the Environmental Health Service has launched its new advice leaflet ‘Stop The Noise’, which includes advice on what you and your neighbours can do to keep the noise down and what the Council can do to help. It is full of good advice and tips on reducing noise, as well as information on how to manage a noise nuisance.” Lisburn City Council’s Environmental Health Service has powers to deal with excessive noise disturbance, informally if possible, and endeavours to resolve all noise complaints that are a nuisance to those living or working in the Council area.
