PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) (NI) Order 1985 requires that any premises providing entertainment of the kind listed below must have an Entertainment Licence. 
- A theatrical performance
- Dancing, singing or music or any other entertainment of a like kind
- A circus
- Any entertainment, which consists of, or includes, any public contest, match, exhibition or display of e.g. boxing, wrestling, snooker, darts etc.
- Outdoor public musical entertainment, which is held wholly or mainly in the open air, and at a place on private land.
There are a number of exemptions to the above list of which the major one is music or singing in the course of a religious meeting or service. Terms and Conditions are laid down within a model document produced by the Department of Environment but the following may be specifically addressed on the licence. - Regulating the conduct, days and hours of use and general arrangement of the place;
- Securing adequate fire precautions;
- Securing the provision of facilities for the disabled;
- Securing the provision of adequate sanitary appliances and things used in connection with such appliances;
- Preventing persons in the neighbourhood being unreasonably disturbed by noise;
- Securing that there is in force a policy of insurance insuring the holder of the licence in respect of any liability which may be incurred by him in respect of the death of, or bodily injury to, any person while on or about the premises.
A licence will remain in force for up to one year but an occasional licence may be granted for fourteen unspecified days in a year. The Application This must be made in writing on the approved form. It must be accompanied by four copies of current building plans, relevant certificates, a copy of advertisement notice and the appropriate fee (see form for details).
