POISONS In accordance with the Poisons (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 and the Poisons Regulations (NI) 1983, the sale of certain poisons known as Part II Poisons is restricted to a person running a retail pharmacy business or to a person who is registered by the local council. An individual from the business must register with the council and must nominate a responsible deputy. The initial registration fee is £5.00, with an annual retention fee of £3.00. The environmental health department carries out checks of registered outlets to ensure poisons are stored: - in a cupboard or drawer reserved solely for poisons,
- in part of premises which is separated from the remainder of the premises and to which consumers are not permitted access,
- or on a shelf reserved solely for storage of poisons and no food is kept directly under the shelf.
Particulars of poisons sales must be recorded and kept for 2 years after the date of the last entry. Examples of Part II Poisons include: preparations intended for indoors use in the destruction of rats or mice, and agricultural, horticultural and forestall insecticides or fungicides. |
