Planning Liason The Planning Committee is the largest committee within the Council with 30 elected Members. It continues to deal with increasing numbers of applications from both the private and public sectors.
While planning continues to be the responsibility of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland, the Council provides a statutory consultative role in relation to developments in the City. This is acknowledged by the Planning Service as providing essential local accountability in the overall delivery of its function. The Commmittee's function involves the consideration and formulation of views on all applications for permission to carry out development work within the area of the Council. The Committee actively encourages openness in its activities and may admit deputations and individuals to address it on important issues. Meetings are open to the public and are regularly reported in the media. In addition to the regular consideration of applications the Committee has and will continue to make representation on: - Area Plans
- Regional Development Strategy
- Regional Transportation Strategy
- Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan
and planning policies which may effect the economic growth, environment and regeneration of the City of Lisburn. |
