Civic Amenity Sites

The Council operates two Civic Amenity Sites.  The larger of the two is located at the Cutts, Derriaghy with a smaller site at Drumlough, Dromara Road just outside Hillsborough.  In total, during 2004 these sites processed 19,700 tonnes of waste of which 3,700 tonnes were recycled/composted.

The Council's Amenity Sites at The Cutts, Derriaghy and at Drumlough, Dromara Road, Hillsborough will be closed on 12th July 2005 and will be open as normal on all other days as follows:-

1 October - 31 March

Mon - Sat       8.00am - 5.30pm

Sunday         12.00 Noon - 5.30pm NOVEMBER 2006 ONWARDS: CLOSED

1 April - 30 September

Mon - Fri        8.00am - 8.00pm

Saturday        8.00am -  5.30pm

Sunday         CLOSED

BOTH COUNCIL CIVIC AMENITY SITES WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAYS FROM THE START OF NOVEMBER 2006. THIS IS DUE TO LANDFILL DISPOSAL BEING UNAVAILABLE ON SUNDAYS THEREFORE MAKING MOVEMENT OF WASTE FROM THE SITES IMPRACTICAL.

 Commercial Waste

Any queries in relation to commercial waste collection should be directed to the Waste Management Unit at 028 9250 9250.

Amenity Collections

A phone call is all that is necessary for the free-of-charge collection of your unwanted bulky household items (e.g. domestic fridges, cookers, settees, furniture, etc.). The removal of waste arising from home improvements is not the responsibility of the Council and private contractors carrying out work on your home should remove all waste.

A charge is levied by the Council for the collection of items which are permanent fixtures of the house (e.g. bricks, blocks, plaster, kitchen units, bathroom fixtures, radiators, boilers, oil tanks, fireplaces, coal bunkers, garage doors, etc.). There is also a charge for the collection of garden waste.

This list is not exhaustive. Confirmation of whether an item is chargeable or can be collected free of charge will be confirmed at the time of booking the collection. Chargeable items will be inspected and the cost stated in advance.

For amenity collections please phone 028 9267 3417.

Fridges and Freezers

The Council will collect free of charge fridges and freezers as part of the amenity collection service: Tel: 028 9267 3417.
