COLLECTION OF BULK WASTE A phone call is all that is necessary for the free-of-charge collection of your unwanted bulky household items (e.g. domestic fridges, cookers, settees, furniture, etc.). Households can receive up to four free of charge amenity collections per year. The removal of waste arising from home improvements is not the responsibility of the Council and private contractors carrying out work on your home should remove this waste. A charge is levied by the Council for the collection of items that are permanent fixtures of the house (e.g. bricks, blocks, plaster, kitchen units, bathroom fixtures, radiators, boilers, oil tanks, fireplaces, coal bunkers, garage doors, etc.). There is also a charge for the collection of garden waste. This list is not exhaustive. Confirmation of whether an item is chargeable or can be collected free of charge will be confirmed at the time of booking the collection. Chargeable items will be inspected and the cost stated in advance. For bulk waste collections Tel: 028 9267 3417. FRIDGES AND FREEZERS The Council will collect free of charge fridges and freezers as part of the bulk waste collection service Tel: 028 9267 3417. VOLUNTARY SERVICES LISBURN Voluntary Service Lisburn (VSL) currently operates a reuse scheme for cookers, washing machines and furniture within the Lisburn area. Instead of throwing away reusable items they can be donated to VSL who provide a free collection service for items that they can refurbish and then sell on for reuse. This is an excellent way of diverting reusable materials from landfill while helping train young people who refurbish the items and providing a lower cost alternative for furnishing homes to those most in need of it. Items not suitable for reuse can still be collected by the Lisburn City Council bulk waste collection service. To donate bulky items direct to VSL Tel: 028 9260 2479.
