Lisburn City Council is pulling out all its floral stops to give Hillsborough Village the best possible chance to achieve a Britain in Bloom Award.
The charming village of Hillsborough will represent Northern Ireland in the Large Village Category of the National Britain in Bloom Awards which, although the results will be announced in the autumn, the actual judging of the village’s floral displays will take place in August this year.
Cllr Andrew Ewing, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said: “It is an honour to reach the final of the prestigious Britain in Bloom Awards where towns and villages across the United Kingdom are showcasing the best floral displays they can muster. The Council’s gardening teams have been working really hard on our floral displays and we are really beginning to move up a gear now to ensure the village is ready to impress the judging panel from the Britain in Bloom organisation.
“I would also like to express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the Hillsborough Village Committee members who have worked side by side with our Council Officers to ensure that our written entry for the village is as good as it can be. We are looking forward to meeting the judging panel and showing them what we have to offer. This is an example of a real partnership effort between the Council and the community and everyone wants Hillsborough to get an award and give assurance that it deserves a Britain in Bloom award, and I know the Council’s gardening teams would be absolutely delighted as they have put a lot of effort to make sure Hillsborough looks its very best,” he added.
