The ongoing, summer-long season of entertainment and theatre production at Wallace Park will see two magnificent productions being performed this Saturday 7th July offering choice for families and adults.
This Saturday children are being encouraged to wear their fancy dress outfits and to get into the dramatic atmosphere at Wallace Park as the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty is told in song and dance.
The matinee runs from 2.00 to 4.00pm.
Face painters will be on hand for children in the audience and a parade with the actors in the play and children who wish to participate will take place around the park grounds during the play’s interval.
Sleeping Beauty is a fantastical and romantic fairytale telling the story of how a beautiful princess is sent into a deep sleep that lasts over a hundred years, until she is awakened by a handsome prince.
The second play on Saturday 7th July is the Importance of Being Earnest and the show begins at 7.30pm. The Event Organisers hope that people who plan to see the play will bring a picnic and a chair and enjoy the evening unfold.
The Importance of Being Earnest, a romantic comedy by Oscar Wilde, is a hilarious tale of mistaken identities and double lives and is acted out in full period costume.
Commenting on the line-up for this weekend, the Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, at Lisburn City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “Our summer-long weekend programme at Wallace Park is full of diversity, drama and of course fun.
“I hope that mums and dads will allow their children to dress up and get into the spirit of the Sleeping Beauty play, there are fantastic opportunities for all the little would-be princes and princesses to go to town with creative outfits,” said Cllr Beckett.
“Of course so much depends on the weather and we really hope for a dry spell that will allow the park’s landscape to be seen at its very best. The location of the purpose-built bandstand is the perfect setting for plays and performances in the beautiful park surroundings.
“Our Park Life summer programme is available at Council facilities and on-line on the homepage at www.lisburncity.gov.uk with details of all the information about all our events which take place every weekend until September,” concluded the Chairman.
Magheragall Pipe Band will perform from 3.00pm to 4.30pm in Wallace Park on Sunday 8th July.
Admission to the events is free of charge.
