Useful Information for Disabled Customers
Lisburn City Council is working with “Disability Network” and “Disability Sport Northern Ireland” to look at how we can make it easier for disabled people to use our services. If you are a disabled customer and would like to input your ideas then please contact Cara McCay on 9266 7227.

The “Buddy Card Scheme” – If you need help and support from a friend or family member in order to use our pools or fitness suite, then you can register for a “Buddy Card”, which entitles your helper to Free admission.
v The “Buddy Card” may also be used at the Island Arts Centre.
v To apply for a “Buddy Card” call at the main reception desk or contact Debbie Butcher (Tel: 028 9260 0263).
v Disabled Customers are also entitled to discounts in our pools and Gymtech 2000.
Disabled Changing Facilities – There are disabled changing facilities located in the pool changing rooms, GymTech 2000 and within the male and female “dryside” changing rooms. The disabled changing rooms are kept locked, to help ensure they are used exclusively by our disabled patrons. To make use of these changing rooms please ask for a key at the pool reception desk.
Disabled Swim Times – We run a disabled swim session in the competition pool on Wednesday's between 11.30am – 12.30pm, however disabled customers are welcome to use the pool during all public swimming sessions.
v The water temperature in the main pool is normally maintained between 30oc – 31oc.
v The LeisurePlex runs a programme of swimmimg lessons for children with special needs, for further details contact the swimming teachers (Tel: 028 9260 0274).
v A number of buoyancy aids are available to assist disabled swimmers, if required please ask at the pool reception desk.
Pool Hoist or Steps – if you require a hoist or special steps to access the pool, then please tell staff at the pool reception desk, and they will have them put in place for you.
Autistic Children Queuing – If you are brining an autistic child to the LeisurePlex on a busy day, with possible queues at the main reception desk, then simply proceed to the front of the queue and produce your PAPA card for priority service.
Staff Training in Disability Awareness Issues – Some reception staff are trained in the use of BSL, whilst operational staff such as Leisure Assistants have undergone disability awareness training.
